Computer Software for Steel Professionals
Structural Material Manager Version 17.0 Upgrade
Export of Master Shippers to ASCII-Delimited Files: The Production-Control Module's Master Shipper could always be printed as a report. In early 2000, it gained the ability to also be output as a set of adhesive labels that can be affixed directly to the steel. The Version 17.0 upgrade now adds a third Master Shipper output option: an ASCII-delimited file.
The system allows you to choose between exporting the Master Shipper in the same order the job was entered or in an order sorted by major piece mark. Regardless of which way you export the Master Shipper, the resulting file will contain only main members that have shipping marks (detail items are omitted), but total assembly weights will include the weight of all items.
Excel can easily import the resulting ASCII-delimited file for custom processing of the material list's major piece marks (the shipping marks). Although many possibilities of such custom processing exist, one of the most common is to create an Excel-based Q-A/Q-C Traveler.
Increased Length-Nesting Module Capacity: Previous versions imposed a restriction such that the Length-Nesting Module could not process more than 65,536 items of any one section size. For example, a maximum of 65,536 W 12 x 58 beams, 65,536 W 10 x 54 beams, 65,536 HSS 4 x 4 x 1/2 tubes, etc.
An architectural change in the Version 17.0 upgrade has now more than doubled the former limit. The Length-Nesting Module can now process up to 150,000 items of any single section size.
Clearly, this improvement does not affect extremely small fab shops. However, it is important to some of E.J.E. Industries' larger customers. That is especially true when large fabricators merge multiple jobs so that the combined material lists can be nested - and ultimately purchased - together for the utmost in efficiency.
